Play iPhone Music in Car Without Aux and Bluetooth
Do you have a new iPhone without the 3.5mm headphone jack? Apple deleted the headphone jack for all newer iPhone 7 and newer. While this may seem to revolutionary and take “ courage “ as Apple VP Phil Schiller introduced the iPhone 7 back in 2017. It had created many compatibility problems for many as most of our audio equipments are equipped with the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack for audio input and outputs.
Apple provides a temporary remedy for this by providing an lightning to 3.5 headphone jack with a dongle with each new iPhone, but this is not a solution for other stereo equipments like a car stereo and other audio system that requires direct connection for sound input and output.
Automobile sound system for example, if your car do not come with Aux input or Bluetooth connection. FM Transmitter is the only options that allow you to play / stream music from your smartphone thru your car factory sound system with radio and CD player / changer
Can I play my new iPhone Music Thru My Old Car Factory Radio?
The short answer for this is to replace the radio. Replacing the factory radio unit of your car is the quickest way to add iPhone music to your older car radio. There are some car model that comes with a built in USB port. This enable you to play your music collection via USB flash drive / stick or memory card.
However, if replacing your factory sound system of your old car is not an option. You still have two options. These are the two options for playing iPhone music through your car stereo without Auxiliary or Bluetooth.
1. Cassette Adapter
If your car is 15 year or older. It will come with a cassette player. You may choose a cassette adapter to play your iPhone music. This will require you to first connect the dongle ( provided by your new iPhone ) to the phone and connect the 3.5 mm jack to the female end of the dongle. The cassette adapter looks just like a regular tape, and can be insert into the tape deck of your car stereo. The audio signal is transmitted through the cassette magnetic head and play through the car speakers just as a tape is being feed. The downside of this method is that the audio signal gets transfer and the quality is degraded.
2. FM Radio Transmitter
If your car is less than 15 years old. It may not come with a cassette player, but instead with a CD player. If your car comes with CD player and no cassette player. You can utilize a fm transmitter. Connect your iPhone with a fm transmitter. The fm transmitter convert your music signal into a radio signal that can be pick up by your car radio. This is the best way to go wireless.A fm transmitter sends the audio signal thru the radio wave.
FM transmitter works like a small radio station. It broadcast a weak audio signal that can be receive by your car stereo just as it would with a local radio station. This audio signal is then processed and play through your car’s radio.
This is actually a better way that requires no awkward wires like the previous mentioned cassette adapter. However, the fm transmitter technology has its limitation and often produce an irritation humming and hissing noise that comes from the interference of the electric signal from the power source and the radio signal broadcaster. The signal and electricity conflicts with one another and this caused the sound or music to be distorted.
Best FM Transmitter for iPhone
This is how it works. Connect the best fm transmitter to your phone’s headphone jack / adapter to the transmitter. The transmitter will convert the music signal to radio signal on a specific frequency. Set your car radio receiver to that specific frequency and music will be sound thru the car speakers.
If your car still has cassette and CD player in it. It will be fairly easy to swap out the old one with a new double din stereo which are relatively inexpensive today.
If the car is 2000+, it will not be as easy since most 2000+ car comes with integrated with other electronic devices such as climate control / display / GPS and etc. Messing with electrical in a late model car is not recommended. Since you may disable other features. In the worst case, you may even disable and kill the vehicle.
If you wish to add smartphone features such as streaming music, GPS , and talk handsfree you may want to look for a fm transmitter as alternative.
